"PS Waverley". Painting presented to the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society to support the upkeep of the world's last remaining ocean-going paddle steamer

The painting was inspired when the artist travelled on the Waverley in October 2009 on the Clyde to watch the launch of HMS Defender. The trip brought to mind Jim Pettigrew, an old friend from his time as a student at Aberdeen University, whom Jonathan recalled was an enthusiastic supporter of the Waverley. A word with the Skipper as to Jim’s continued involvement with the Waverley led to the two friends being reunited.

Jonathan presented the painting to the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society in 2010, in the hope that it might bring some material benefit to the Society as a contribution towards Waverley’s running costs. The Society decided that the best way to achieve this aim was to hang the work on board for the 2011 sailing season and invite bids. The highest bidder by the close of the season secured the painting.
